South Devon Highway

The £130 million South Devon Highway was constructed to alleviate congestion on the A380 by channelling traffic away from the village of Kingskerswell. Involving many partners, it was one of the most complex highways schemes and biggest construction projects in the South West.

Coast coordinated communications for the funding, pre-planning and the construction phases developing strategies for awareness, consultation and engagement across community, opposition, political and business audiences over a period of a decade. Activities ranged from creating media and social media campaigns, to organising events and roadshows, to implementing public affairs and influencer programmes. The project won a number of industry awards, including the British Construction Industry Community Engagement Award.

The editor of New Civil Engineer acknowledged Coast’s effectiveness in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders as being key to the completion of the project.
