Somerset Economic Impact Assessment: Flooding

During 2013, Somerset was subjected to a prolonged period of wet weather and subsequent flooding. The Somerset Levels and Moors (SLM) were particularly affected and the flood event was the worst in living memory for the residents.

Coast developed a survey programme to assess the financial impact of the floods on local business, commissioning an independent research company. This data contributed to the Action Plan’s evidence base, providing insight into the extent of the economic impact of the floods on both the SLM and more widely across Somerset. It is still one of the largest pieces of research on the area to date.

Coast’s research was a vital component of the Action Plan for the long-term sustainable future of the Somerset Levels and Moors.
