South Devon Link Road project team announce quieter road surface to be used on route

5th March, 2015
The South Devon Link Road is to receive a ‘quieter-surface treatment’, a type of road surface that noticeably reduces the noise created by traffic.

Devon County Council and Torbay Council, along with Galliford Try- the contractors responsible for constructing the road – have made the announcement as they enter the final year of the project. The revised surface will result in a noticeable reduction in the road noise level.

Councillor Andrew Leadbetter, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Economy and Growth, said: “I am really pleased to announce the use of this quieter road surface which will have benefits for residents and motorists alike.”

Mayor of Torbay, Gordon Oliver said: “This announcement is another step forward in our overall aim to improve life for the residents of Kingskerswell.  This news will be warmly received both by motorists and residents.”

Chris Hastings, Project Director at Galliford Try, said: "Throughout the project the emphasis has been on minimising disruption and we are pleased this decision has been made and a quieter road surface has been selected. We have now entered the final year during which we will be focusing on completing the road surface and concluding the project on time”.
