Representatives sought for liaison group

29th November, 2012
Devon County Council, in partnership with Torbay Council and their Contractor GallifordTry, is seeking volunteers to join the South Devon Link Road Community Liaison Group.

The Group?s inaugural meeting is being held on Monday 10th December at 7pm at Kingskerswell Public Hall and representatives from the local community - residents, commuters and businesses - are being asked to register their interest.

The Group is being set up in order to promote communications about the project, with the aim of ensuring the project proceeds smoothly with minimum impact and minimal disruption to all concerned.

The Group will meet on a regular basis to provide information and answer any issues or concerns from the local community.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said:

?We know that there is a great deal of interest in the South Devon Link Road project ? our recent exhibitions were attended by over 1100 people, many of whom expressed an interest in joining the Community Liaison Group.

?We hope that people are keen to join the group and take an active role in ensuring the smooth roll out of the project.

?We expect construction work to cause minimal disruption and we are committed to maintaining regular communication with residents and businesses to keep them informed of progress.?

Torbay Mayor Gordon Oliver said:

?Now that work on the link road is underway, it is important that we continue to keep people updated on the scheme?s progress and address issues that will inevitably arise as work goes on.

?This liaison group will play a key role in ensuring effective communications, and I hope that people in Torbay will put their names forward to sit on it.?

GallifordTry Project Director Jim Watson added:

?We are looking forward to building on the community engagement we have had to date and formally establishing the community liaison group.

?By effective communication and mutual understanding the Kingskerswell Bypass construction process will be a better experience for us all?

Places are limited and interested parties are asked to register their attendance by emailing A380.SDLR@gallifordtry.co.uk or calling 01626 357729.
