Hinkley Point C project scoops up at the Institution of Civil Engineers South West awards dinner 2019

Key infrastructure projects from across the South West were recognised for the incredible contribution they make to local communities throughout the region.

 In a highly competitive shortlist of 14 projects, Hinkley Point C Nuclear Plant (Somerset) and the Wool Old Bridge Renovation (Dorset) both received two awards during the evening. With Hinkley Point C collecting both the ‘Showcase Award’ and ‘Projects

Over £3m (New Build)’; and Wool Old Bridge Renovation picking up the award for ‘Project Under £3m (Re-Engineered)’, as well as the highly competitive ‘People’s Choice Award’, which received nearly 3200 votes.

This annual awards ceremony has become the highest regional honour for engineering, recognising the significant contributions by civil engineers, both individually and collectively, on major infrastructure developments that have benefited local communities.

The evening saw a big step forward for the future of diversity in Civil Engineering, with the individual awards being dominated by women. Graduate of the Year went to Rosheena Jugdhurry and the Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Elizabeth Tripptree. The judges also presented a special award to Trelissick Garden’s, Carcaddon Footbridge, a stunning piece of craftsmanship perfectly designed and engineered for its environment.   • Showcase Award - Hinkley Point C – Earthworks Unit 1 Heatsink

Individual Awards
