Devon County Council (DCC) is holding a Public Exhibition to inform residents of the latest developments in the proposals for a new Recycling Centre for Sidmouth.

The Exhibition will be held at the Bowd Inn, Sidmouth on Thursday 24th November 2011 between 3-8 pm.

Officers from DCC will be available to discuss the current proposals and the planning application which is being developed for a site just to the south of the existing facility at the Bowd.

Councillor Roger Croad, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services at Devon County Council, said: “We want to keep the public well informed on plans for the new Sidmouth Recycling Centre. The Exhibition is an opportunity for residents to speak directly to DCC officers and to find out about the development of the proposed new facility.”

Planning permission for the current site is due to expire in 2012 and is unlikely to be renewed, which could mean the area not being served by a Recycling Centre. In addition, the existing Woods Farm site is too small and gets very congested.

After a Public Consultation, held in September 2010, local residents were asked which of three sites would be the most suitable for a new Centre. 84.5% of the 529 responses received supported the development of a new facility at the Bowd, just to the South of the existing site.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Member for Sidmouth Sidford said: “The last Exhibition was highly successful and helped us to decide on the location for this badly needed new Centre. The new proposals will provide a superior site with good access, make the recycling process far easier and provide a modern, first rate facility for local residents.

“We are inviting Sidmouth residents to come and find out the latest information on the proposals.”
