Would-Be Gardeners Get Top Tips On How To Grow Their Own
28th July, 2010
EXPERT advice will be offered later this month for anyone considering growing their own fruit and vegetables
Saltash Environmental Action (SEA) is hosting a Grow your Own evening including a question and answer session with green-fingered enthusiasts.
A panel of six will answer all gardening-related questions while Roger Creagh Osborne, from the SEA committee, will act as chair.
The panel will be made up of:
• Tess Wilmot – permaculture teacher who works for Diggin It and Dig for Devonport
• Sue Minter – horticulturalist and former head of horticulture at the Eden Project
• Penny Hammond – head gardener at Saltram House
• Derek Holley – former science teacher
• Sean O’Neill – Keveral veg box scheme
• Andy Parsons – smallholder
The event takes place at Brunel School in Callington Road on Friday 26 March from 7pm.
The evening will also include refreshments – made with locally-sourced ingredients and Fairtrade where possible.
Adam Killeya, chairman of SEA, said: “Growing your own food is an excellent way to help cut carbon emissions, ensures you know exactly where your food is coming from and can even keep you fit. We’d particularly like to see more young people growing their own and as more allotments come on line, this is the perfect opportunity for everyone to get out there and get gardening!
Tickets are £3 for adults and are on sale in Piglets and the Bookshelf, both in Fore Street, Saltash, or by calling 01752 846096.
