Free Legal Advice On Offer From Law Firm
22nd September, 2010
A LEADING regional law firm is offering help for people who may be entitled to take legal action but can’t afford solicitors’ bills due to the current financial climate. Free drop-in lunchtime and evening legal advice sessions will be offered at four Everys’ offices throughout Devon and Somerset, starting today (Monday 20 September).
The clinics, in Taunton, Exmouth, Honiton and Sidmouth, are for people who have issues to discuss which could lead to litigation and who want to know their legal rights and what funding options are available.
Gay Cherryson, Head of Litigation at Everys, said: “The clinics are mainly aimed at people who have potentially litigious matters. They may be employment or neighbour disputes, quarrels between homeowners and builders, issues over family wills, queries about claims for injury or disagreements between business people.
“There are probably more disputes now because of the recession. Everybody is under a certain amount of pressure. In better times people may let things go but in harder times, they are more reluctant to lose out financially.”
“The idea is to make ourselves accessible to people who are working and may not be able to find the time to see a solicitor during normal office hours. These are often sensitive matters which are not always appropriate to discuss on the phone.
Miss Cherryson added that people should not be automatically put off at the thought of expensive legal costs.
She added: “Often people don’t realise the different types of funding available. The days of legal aid are diminishing but there may be other avenues. For example, people might have household expenses’ insurance which could cover fees or we may be able to offer a no win no fee arrangement, which is offered for a wide variety of disputes, not just injury claims. We want to make people aware of how they can get help.”
Although an appointment is not necessary to attend one of the advice sessions - which generally last about 30 minutes - it is recommended.
