Food Lovers In For A Treat This Weekend
28th July, 2010
Succulent sausages, tasty tarts and winning wines will all be available for tasting this weekend as the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink returns.
The annual festival, of which Devon County Council is a main sponsor, will be held at Exeter Castle and surrounding Northernhay Gardens in Exeter city centre from Friday 9 April to Sunday 11 April.
Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the city over the weekend as more than 100 regional producers show off their wares.
There will also be cookery demonstrations from chefs including Michael Caines and Masterchef 2009 winner Steve Groves as well as food workshops for all the family.
The event also includes the Festival After Dark event on Friday and Saturday evening.
Festival After Dark takes place in the Castle courtyard and features live music from local bands as well as more regional food, ales and cider.
Councillor William Mumford, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Strategic Planning, said: “Supporting Devon’s food and drink sector is key because buying local food and drink strengthens Devon’s economy, protects the environment by reducing the distance your food travels, supports rural communities and sustains Devon’s exceptional products.
“The county council is committed to supporting the rural economy and helping it thrive through diversification. Sponsorship of the festival is now in its third year and forms part of Devon County Council’s ongoing commitment to Exeter and Exeter’s economy.”
Tickets are £6 (£1 children) and £5 for the After Dark Festival ticket. A festival weekend ticket allows entry to all three days and both Festival After Dark events and costs £10. To buy tickets, phone 01392 667080 or go to: www.exeterfoodanddrinkfestival.co.uk.
