Businesses To Help Influence Training Provision

28th July, 2010

Firms in the Plymouth travel to work area are being given the opportunity to have their say on issues such as recruitment, skills gaps and training in the city.

More than 2,000 employers falling within Plymouth’s six priority sectors have been sent questionnaires this week.

They will be asked about recruitment, hard-to-fill vacancies, current and future skills requirements and current skills gaps and training and development.

The research has been commissioned by the Plymouth Employment and Skills Board, which will use the findings to help identify the skills priorities for the Plymouth area.  It is part of an extended analysis into skills and employment within the city, and the role that training can play in the city’s future economic growth.

The findings will be collated and analysed by the University of Plymouth’s Socio-economic Research and Intelligence Observatory (SERIO).

All businesses returning completed surveys by the deadline of Friday 30 April will be entered into a draw to win £500.

Graham Morris, Project Director of the Plymouth Employment Skills Board, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for employers to help influence future skills training in the city and we would encourage everyone to take part. And of course there’s the added incentive that your firm could win £500.”

Rebekah Southern, of the University of Plymouth, added: “The hope is that we will get a much better understanding of current and future skills needs affecting businesses in the Plymouth travel to work area.”
