South West Devon Waste Partnership Sign Deal With MVV Umwelt

29th March, 2011

South West Devon Waste Partnership today announced that it has signed a deal with MVV Umwelt to provide a 25 year residual waste treatment solution for the region. MVV Umwelt is proposing a 245,000 tonne energy from waste plant located in North Yard at Devonport Naval Base to treat waste from Plymouth, Torbay and South West Devon. Before any development can take place, planning consent will be required; the planning application will be submitted in late spring (2011). It is intended that the Dockyard will be able to use the electricity and heat produced from the process, in their existing steam network, providing significant environmental and economic benefits from day one of operation.

More information on the work of the partnership can be found at www.swdwp.co.uk
