Spice Up Your Life - Celebrate National Curry Week

30th November, 2010

The Don't let Devon go to waste campaign is again teaming up with Love Food Hate Waste to bring some fresh ideas for National Curry Week which runs from 21st - 27th November this year.

Many restaurants throughout the country will be laying on special menus this week and celebrating 200 Years of Indian Restaurants in the UK.

Staff from Don't let Devon go to waste will be holding their own Come 'Curry' Dine With Me week, challenging each other to come up with the best curries in the county. The catch? The recipes all have to make use of leftovers.

The most successful recipes for the week will be made available on the Recycle Devon website which is now ready for anyone to upload their favourite leftover rescue recipes.

Councillor Roger Croad, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Regulatory Services at Devon County Council, said: "With Chicken Tikka Masala now cited as the nation's favourite dish, the curry has never been so popular. It is also the perfect way to create new and interesting meals from leftovers, feeding the family delicious food while saving money."

The Love Food Hate Waste website already contains recipes for different curries and starters and sides which include Indian parcels, mixed vegetable curry, chicken and tomato spiced curry, hot and spicy rice and spicy warm fruit salad.

Other recipes, such as the tropical coconut smoothie, can simply be adapted swapping mango for pineapple to produce a different version. All these recipes can be found at www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/recipes

Further recipes, ideas and tips for taking the strain out of food storage and preparation can be found at www.recycledevon.org
